In Italy, farm tractors typically have power outputs ranging from 80 to 130 horsepower, whereas multipurpose tractors are characterized by power outputs between 120 and 170 horsepower. In this context, the Valtra G Series, with power ratings between 105 and 135 horsepower (110 to 145 in power boost mode), can fit into both categories, aided by their 255-centimeter wheelbase that meets the requirements of both classes. Only their empty weights of over 5,100 kilograms reveal their design is more suited to open-field work than farmyard use. However, if we move beyond the basic parameters defining various classes—power, weight, and wheelbase—and closely examine other factors, such as minimum widths of 172 centimeters and turning radii of 436 centimeters, there is nothing preventing us from considering the G Series as well-structured farm tractors. Regardless of classification, in practice, these tractors truly excel in versatility, an assertion supported by their modifiable technological content tailored to the mission profile of each machine.
All G Series models are powered by the same four-cylinder Agco Power turbodiesel engines with a displacement of four liters and 400 cubic centimeters. They differ not only in power output but also in the ability to operate in an “Eco” mode at 125 horsepower, which reduces engine speed and increases torque to minimize fuel consumption. The “Eco” setting reduces power output from 125 to 115 horsepower, but the nominal power is available whenever the operator switches to “Power” mode. The range includes the models G105, G115, G125 Eco, G125, and G135, with maximum power outputs of 110, 120, 125, 130, and 145 horsepower, respectively. All engines are paired with automatic six-stage powershift transmissions offering 24+24 or 24+48 gear ratios, operating in two automatic modes that closely simulate a CVT transmission, freeing the operator from manual gear management. In both modes, the transmission automatically adjusts the engine-to-wheel ratio based on acceleration and load requirements, always aiming for maximum fuel efficiency.
Top-of-the-line “Versu” models also feature a system that automatically modulates hydraulic output without affecting driving speed, increasing engine speed when higher oil flow is needed. The G Series is available in three different configurations: the entry-level “HiTech,” the mid-range “Active,” and the top-tier “Versu.” The first two come with an “Arm” management console for the main functions, integrated into the armrest of the driver’s seat. The “Versu” versions have a “SmartTouch” console also integrated into the right armrest, which includes a monitor interface that allows access to all digital solutions provided by Valtra, including assisted driving and automatic treatment adjustment systems like “Valtra Guide” and “Valtra Rate Control,” and the “TaskDoc Pro” program for managing ongoing activities with data transfer directly to the farm via the “Valtra Connect” system—a useful feature for third-party operations as it provides near real-time data necessary for job billing, allowing central technical offices to monitor the functional status of each machine.
The hydraulics can also be monitored, with open center or load-sensing systems and mechanical or electronic distributors, depending on the configuration. The hydraulic capacity is high for this type of machine, offering 100 or 110 liters per minute, and the rear and front lifters have capacities of 6,000 and 3,000 kilograms, respectively. The front lifter is optional and does not prevent the tractor from being factory-fitted with a front loader, available in 12 different models, the most robust of which can reach nearly five meters in height and handle loads up to 3,500 kilograms. It’s noteworthy that the loaders do not impair maneuverability in terms of turning angles, can be quickly mounted and dismounted, and the loads during operation are protected from shocks and vibrations by the “SoftDrive” system, which can be activated and deactivated from the cab electronically.
Box: Every Tractor Its Own Package
Like all Valtra tractors, the G Series can be customized with both pre-configured optional packages and options from the Valtra Unlimited catalog. The pre-configured packages are named “Comfort,” “Technology,” and “Technology Pro.” The “Comfort” package includes a suspended front axle, cab, and operator seat, along with an enhanced battery of adjustable light projectors. The “Technology” package adds all the necessary technologies to digitize the tractor, including ISOBUS connections for direct communication between the tractor and the equipment in use. The “Technology Pro” option completes the tractor’s digitalization by offering all the systems and programs needed for precision farming.
Valtra Unlimited offers specialized equipment for specific tasks. For example, cab protections for forestry operations or specific solutions for winter road maintenance, different liveries from those offered as standard, leather interiors, ventilated ergonomic seats, and much more.
