Safety and innovation for hydraulics, Gefran sensors on display at Eima

Gefran sensors

The mobile hydraulics sector, particularly applications for agricultural machinery, requires high safety and reliability standards to ensure operator protection.

In this regard, Gefran, an Italian multinational specialized in the design and production of sensors, industrial process control instrumentation, and automation systems, offers a wide range of smart sensors designed to meet every application need in the field of mobile hydraulics.

These solutions will take center stage at the 46th edition of Eima 2024, the International Exhibition of Agricultural Machinery, scheduled from November 6 to 10 in Bologna.

At stand B20 – Hall 15, Gefran will showcase its latest products dedicated to the agricultural sector. On display, in addition to the innovative TWIIST multivariable transducer and the GSH-A multivariable position sensor, will be the GRA series of angular sensors, designed for controlling the accelerator pedal position on tractors and agricultural machinery. Additionally, the new KMC pressure sensor with digital output, now available with a CANopen Safety interface, will also be presented.

KMC: now available with CANopen Safety interface

The KMC pressure transmitters are based on proprietary thin-film sensing element technology, deposited on a steel diaphragm. The latest generation SMD electronics, combined with the compact design of the fully stainless steel structure, make these sensors an extremely robust and high-performance solution for applications such as agricultural machinery, lifting equipment, and earth-moving machines. The new model, certified according to the EN 50325 standard, integrates these features with an even higher level of functional safety, ensured by the CANopen Safety digital communication output.

GSH-A: a single sensor for measuring linear position and inclination angle

Available with a CANopen output, the new GSH-A multivariable wire position transducer utilizes Hall effect technology for linear measurement up to 12,500 mm and a single-axis MEMS inclinometer for simultaneous detection of position and inclination angle (z). The high level of environmental protection (IP67), along with signal redundancy and superior resistance to shocks (up to 50g) and vibrations (up to 20g), ensures excellent performance in typical mobile hydraulics applications. In particular, GSH-A transducers are the ideal solution for equipping aerial platforms, material handling vehicles, forklifts, as well as agricultural machinery and excavators.

TWIIST: the new frontier of measurement technology

This multivariable transducer, for contactless position detection, represents cutting-edge technology thanks to a patented measurement system based on 3D Hall Effect. TWIIST not only records position but also additional process variables, including displacement speed, acceleration, vibration, spatial inclination angle (x, y, z), actual and peak temperature, working hours, and the number of kilometers traveled by the cursor.

The two available versions, one with IO-Link digital output and the other with CANopen connectivity, meet the requirements of Industry 4.0 and mobile applications, respectively. These features enable precise Condition Monitoring of the sensor, detecting any irregularities in machine operation. Therefore, TWIIST stands out for its extreme versatility across a wide range of applications, including: height control of spray units on sprayers, movement adjustment of platforms on fruit-picking machines, suspension and cabin positioning management on tractors and agricultural vehicles, and regulating the amount of feed dispensed in self-propelled feed mixers.
